There is an electronic signal device that some of my friends use in back country hiking and my brother uses when he is out on his sailboat. It is an account that you set up online, a family member or friend can track you by using a code, and if you are in trouble, there is a button to press that sends out a distress signal via satellite. It is advisable if you decide to do more back country treks.
